Courtney Brims

I finally started buying Frankie Magazine! I love it! It's just the kind of mag I would actually read... and not just look at the photos. I found Courtney in Frankie :)

Black and White Sunday

Well.... one thing I learned this week is, it doesn't matter if you make it complex, or if you make it simple, it will probably end up the same way.

I sometimes miss the days where as a child I thought things were black and white, right or wrong.

Here are some Black and White pics from Smashing Mag.... to match my week.

Koichi Fujii

I have been working like crazy for the last week.... and will be for the next 8 weeks.... I love it, but it leave little time for anything else. Today I realized how much I miss the old blog..... so I found you this guy :)

Koichi Fujii worked as an Art Director for advertising companies in Tokyo for 2 decades. Now he is a London based freelance illustrator, working worldwide. Since he started, his style has changed little by little, but his underlying preoccupation is always how to mix colours.

Gary Fernandez

Gary Fernandez is a fantastic illustrator from Spain. His work flows amazingly while being perfectly balanced. His work makes me feel like I am in a different world.... falling down the rabbit hole. The use of black, white and shades of gray, give it beautiful simplicity, while the work it self if quite complex.

Such a talented man.

Algorithmic and Code Generated Artworks

It's been a while since I spent some droll time on Smashing Mag, but I'm back!

Here are some amazing art works which people create using code! Hard to get your head around.... what people can do is amazing.... in a good way sometimes.

Ella Tjader

After yet another early, busy busy busyyyyyyyyyyy day... I have gone in search of something to give me that calm feeling again....

On my search I found Ella Tjader, an illustrator from Scotland. Her work speaks for itself...

So if you're having a crazy day like me.... please take some time to unwind. :)

Jennifer Gordon

Jeniffer is a writer and mixed media artist originally from Manchester NH, about 45 minutes north of Boston. The second i saw her work I loved it! Not only is it different then most of the work that is around at the moment, but she connects with a part of history which I find fascinating.

The collage work is done so tastefully... great balance. :)

Coraline in 3D

This weekend I also made my way to see Coraline. Yes, it's a kids film... but come on... you have to go!

The cinema was full of very small kids, but I felt the film was also done for older kids, such as myself. First thing.... It was scary! I would say if the kid is under 5-6, and still thinks movies are real, they should not be watching this. The whole buttons for eyes alone, is pretty spooky. It only gets spookier from there..

Now, the 3D part was done BEAUTIFULLY! It wasn't too in your face, but done in such a clever way, that it just adds to the film. The storyline was not too original, but the visuals alone carry the film... in my opinion anyway...

GO SEE IT! (you get to wear sexy glasses)

Mmmmmmm... DEXTER!

My Housemate just got the new season 3 Dexter. I have been a big fan of our friendly serial killer for a while now. It's strange how he can do such bad things.... yet we still love him.

Tonight I sat down to watch a little Dexter... and I was reminder of how much I love the amazing opening credits. I love the close up, the saturated colour, and of course the double meaning of everything....

mmmm... DEXTER!

Nuno Da Costa

Today has been a rather testing day... so I went in search of something to lift my spirits. I found Nuno.... and it hit the spot :)

Nuno is a London based, self taught illustrator specializing in fashion and beauty imagery.
Nuno's illustrations fall mainly in two categories, colour and black and white brush work but always retain their up to the minute sense of style.

What can I say.... work like this puts a smile on my face...

Dizingof Designs

I find it hard to find fashion that really speaks to me. It all really starts to look the same. I guess what I want is a combo of Funk, Class and Attitude. I find all those things in the Dizingof! I have to admit, I don't love all their designs, and I don't feel that the photography really works for the label....

But give me a bag of money... and most of it would be spent in this store!

Stina Persson

Stina Persson is an illustrator based in Stockholm, Sweden. Her water colour work blows me away! It is out of this world.... When ever I have tried to use water colour it has ended as a bunch of soggy brown paper :) This girl, unlike me, really knows how to work that water colour brush!

Grahame Baker Smith

How cool is this work from Mr Baker Smith! So much happening... so much to look at... I love it! I feel like there is a whole bunch of hidden meanings in everything. Like a secret code we need to crack. mmmmm..... very interesting....
